THE PERFECT WEDDING

Part 2: Wedding dress & attire

There are many ways you can accessorise your dress – remember to keep in mind the season your wedding date is in and add your own personality and style…

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in your shoe…

Veilborrow from tradition with this finishing touch; worn back behind a beautiful tiara for a contemporary finish or over the face ready for the traditional reveal at the ceremony. There are different lengths, trims and delicate sheer materials available – try on a few different ones with your dress to see which you like best.

Flowers – fresh flowers made into a crown or delicate hair pieces make a beautiful alternative to the veil. Co-ordinate with your colour theme and style.

Wraps – fabric scarves make a versatile accessory, turning into a wrap or shawl to keep the chill off your shoulders or to protect you from the sun (and you can use them again after your day!). For Winter weddings there are also capes, boleros, blankets or even a bridal coat…

Shoessomething new… court shoes, sandals, boots, flip flops… find a style that suits your dress and have some fun at the same time; surprise your guests with shoes in your chosen accent colour! If you are opting for a woodland, country or coastal wedding etc a pair of wellington boots co-ordinating with your colour scheme also makes for great photo opportunities (whichever you choose remember to add the silver sixpence).

Jewellery – necklace, bracelet, tiara, head piece… a family heirloom; lovely way to include your something old or borrowed

Garter / Lingerie – options vary immensely and will depend on the style of your dress (eg backless, strapless, figure hugging…) but this is a great way to add your something new and something blue; thread a thin piece of blue ribbon through lace trims and tie a small bow…

Hair & Make up – remember to book trial appointments. Take along photos of your dress so your stylist can see what styles would work well, and any accessories you plan to have so that you can get a real feel for the final look (veil / tiara / head piece / flowers…)
